How do I switch from Kit (ConvertKit) to SendFox?
Import your Kit subscribers in Audience → Contacts → Import contacts → Import contacts from Kit: connect Kit, pick all or one tag, then confirm. On every plan.
What comes across from Kit?
SendFox can connect to your Kit (formerly ConvertKit) account and pull your subscribers in directly, with no CSV file to prepare. The direct import brings over:
- Active subscribers only. The import screen says *Only active subscribers will be imported. Kit counts unsubscribed, bounced and unconfirmed subscribers as not active, so they're left out and you don't need to clean the list first.
- Email address and first name. Last names, Kit tags and custom fields don't come across with the direct import. The sections below show how to bring those over.
The Kit import works on every plan. The Free plan holds up to 1,000 contacts and sends 3,000 emails a month; for more, see SendFox Pro plans. Imported contacts don't receive a confirmation email. Moving from another tool as well? See how to switch to SendFox from another email platform.
How do I import my Kit subscribers?
- Go to Audience → Contacts and click Import contacts. (Or go to Audience → Lists and click Create list to import into a new list.)
- Under Or import from another product, click Import contacts from Kit.
- The first time, sign in to Kit and approve the connection when asked.
- Under Choose what to import from Kit:, pick All subscribers or one Kit tag.
- Optionally add tags under Tag them on import.
- Click Confirm and Create (new list), Confirm and Import or Confirm update (existing list).
Kit imports run in the background. SendFox shows Kit import has started, you will receive an email when complete. and emails you when your contacts are in.
How do I bring my Kit tags across?
Run the Kit import once for each tag you want to keep:
- Start the import again and click Import contacts from Kit.
- Pick the Kit tag, such as Customers.
- Under Tag them on import, type the same tag name. SendFox creates the tag if it doesn't exist yet.
- Confirm, then repeat for the next tag.
Subscribers already in SendFox aren't duplicated; they just get the new tag. See how contact tags work.
How do I bring last names or custom fields from Kit?
Use a CSV export instead of the direct import:
- In Kit, open Subscribers, click Status and choose Confirmed. This keeps unsubscribed people out of the file.
- Tick the box at the top of the list and click Select all. Without it, Kit exports only the page you're looking at.
- Click ⋮ → Export. Kit emails you a download link, which expires after 5 days.
- In SendFox, go to Audience → Contacts → Import contacts, click Upload a file and map the columns. To bring a Kit custom field, create the matching custom field in SendFox first.
Export only confirmed subscribers: SendFox adds every row of a CSV file as a subscribed contact. Kit puts all of a subscriber's tags in one Tags column, which SendFox doesn't read. To keep tags this way, export one tag or segment at a time and use Tag them on import.
What do I rebuild after importing?
- Forms: create a SendFox form and replace the Kit embed code on your site.
- Sequences: recreate each Kit sequence as a SendFox automation, one email and delay at a time.
- Kit pages: rebuild them as Smart Pages and update your links.
- Personalization: use SendFox's personalization tags, such as
{{contact.first_name}}. - Sending domain: validate your domain so your emails come from your own address.
Troubleshooting
I can't find the Kit option
- It's on the import screen, under Or import from another product. The import options are unavailable while your account is over its contact limit and has no card on file.
The Kit import won't start
- If your account is already at its contact limit, SendFox shows You are at the N-contact limit on your plan. Upgrade to import more contacts. On Free, click Upgrade! in the top nav to see your options.
Fewer contacts arrived than I have in Kit
- Only active subscribers are imported, and SendFox keeps one contact per email address.
Still stuck? Browse the SendFox Help Center or email support@sendfox.com with the Kit tag you chose and the name of the list you imported into.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do my contacts stay in sync with Kit?
No. The import copies your Kit subscribers once. They stay in SendFox afterwards, and later changes in Kit don't carry over unless you import again.
Will my Kit subscribers get a confirmation email?
No. SendFox doesn't send a confirmation email to imported contacts.
Can I move my paid Kit subscribers?
Not their subscriptions. Kit Commerce runs on a Stripe account that Kit manages, so paid subscriptions can't be moved to SendFox. You can import those readers' email addresses, and they can subscribe again through a SendFox paid newsletter, which needs Pro (Settings → Paid newsletter). See How do I move paid subscribers to SendFox?
How do SendFox and Kit compare?
