How do unsubscribing and resubscribing work in SendFox?

How do unsubscribing and resubscribing work?

Unsubscribing and resubscribing work the same on every plan — Free, Lifetime and Pro.

• Unsubscribed from all emails. A contact whose status is Unsubscribed gets no emails from your account. That happens when they unsubscribe from everything, or when you unsubscribe them.
• Unsubscribed from one list. With per-list unsubscribe on, a subscriber can leave some lists and keep the rest. Their status stays subscribed, each list they left is marked as unsubscribed on their profile and on the Contacts page, and that list’s Subscribers count no longer includes them.

How do I resubscribe a contact?

1. From the top nav, open Audience → Contacts.
2. Find the contact, open the dropdown menu next to them, and choose Resubscribe.
3. Click Yes, Resubscribe in the pop-up. The contact is moved back to subscribed.

Resubscribing also puts the contact back on every list they had left individually — SendFox tells you how many. There’s no option to restore just one list.

Important: only resubscribe someone who has given you permission. Resubscribing a contact without their consent can violate anti-spam and privacy laws (such as GDPR). SendFox is not liable for resubscribing contacts without consent.

How do I unsubscribe a contact?

1. Open Audience → Contacts.
2. Open the dropdown menu next to the contact and choose Unsubscribe.
3. Click Yes, Unsubscribe in the pop-up.

This unsubscribes the contact from all your emails. It does not delete the contact — they stay on your lists marked as Unsubscribed and simply won’t receive emails. To remove them entirely, choose Delete from the same dropdown.

How do I let subscribers leave just one list?

1. Open Settings → List defaults.
2. Tick Enable per-list unsubscribe.
3. Click Save changes.

New SendFox accounts have it on already. Your list names are shown to subscribers when they unsubscribe. To show a friendlier name, go to Audience → Lists, choose Edit list from the list’s menu, fill in Name subscribers see: and click Update.

What do subscribers see when they unsubscribe?

With per-list unsubscribe on, and more than one choice to offer, the unsubscribe link opens a Before you go page:

• Your lists are listed, with the one the email came from labelled Email was sent to this list. For an email sent to tags, they can also stop Emails like this one.
• Unsubscribe me from all lists is ticked to start with; ticking a list to keep unticks it. They finish with Confirm.
• If they keep some lists, they see Thanks for staying with us. with what they left and what they still receive.

When your account has two or more lists, your emails’ footer also shows a Manage preferences link next to Unsubscribe. It opens Manage your email preferences, where subscribers can leave lists or rejoin ones they left.

With the setting off, the unsubscribe link unsubscribes them from all your emails. Unsubscribe links in mail apps (like Gmail’s) always unsubscribe from everything.

Troubleshooting

Can I resubscribe a contact that bounced?

• No. Never resubscribe an address that has hard-bounced — it harms your deliverability. See what SendFox contact types and statuses mean.

I unsubscribed someone but they’re still on my list

• That’s expected — unsubscribing keeps the record. Use Delete to remove the contact completely.

A contact shows as subscribed but stopped getting one list’s emails

• They left that list with per-list unsubscribe. Open their profile: the list is marked Unsubscribed from this list. If they sign up again through a form for that list, they rejoin it. Adding them back to the list yourself, or importing them again, doesn’t undo their choice.
